Avalokiteshvara

Let me introduce you to
Avalokiteshvara.

Perhaps it’s easier to
sound his name out slowly:
AH-WA-LO
KI-TESH-WA-RA.

Avalo-kitesh-vara,
lives as long as necessary,
practicing compassion,
until all need for compassion is past.

He preaches no sermons.
He espouses no philosophy.
Whatever faith he has remains
unspoken.

His action, alone, is his teaching.

AH-WA-LO
KI-TESH-VA-RA.

Some live
only to speak his name,
softly,
rapt in meditation.
