| Six Strong Suggestions for Writers before submitting your work! 1. Put everything you want in your book BEFORE you send the final copy to the publisher! Things like indices cannot be added afterwards without much delay and expense. 2. Once your copy is back from the copy-editor, DO NOT CHANGE IT! Doing so defeats the point of copy- editing. If you make any changes, expect to pay to have the entire work copy-edited again. 3. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR COVER DESIGN once it is submitted. Look it over carefully and decide whether you like it BEFORE you submit it! Nothing pisses printers off more than having to redo someone’s cover. 4. You, the author, are responsible for your book! Others can help you, but it has YOUR name on it. 5. If you submit a document to your publisher with the word “final” in the file name, let that be “final!” If it isn’t finished, then don’t submit it! 6. Every book is flawed in some way. Authors wince at every typo and error they see in their published work. Accept that a few will sneak through, however carefully you work. If you have done your job well, those flaws will be vastly more noticeable to you than to your readers. |
